Is Faith Irrational?

No—faith is not irrational. Biblical faith is not blind belief or wishful thinking. It is trust based on evidence. Christianity does not call people to believe without reason—it calls them to trust in a God who has revealed Himself through history, creation, Scripture, and ultimately in Jesus Christ.

🔍 What is irrational faith?

  • Irrational faith is belief with no basis, or belief in something even against the evidence.

  • Christianity does not promote this kind of faith.

🧠 What is biblical faith?

  • Faith in the Bible is better understood as trust or confidence in something reliable.

  • Example: You sit in a chair because you trust it will hold you—based on prior experience and evidence.

  • Hebrews 11:1 – “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

    • This does not mean “blind” faith—it means confident trust based on God’s proven character.

🛠 Evidence + Trust = Biblical Faith

  • Christianity encourages testing truth claims (Acts 17:11).

  • Jesus invited people to believe because of the signs and miracles (John 10:38).

  • Faith responds to evidence—not in spite of it.
